Why Buy a Batson Rod Building Blank

Unlike some companies that design new rod models during a nice round of golf, the design team at Batson Enterprises spends time not just in the lab, but also on the water testing new blank models for strength, sensitivity and the unique quality we call fish-ability. We also utilize a nationwide staff of highly skilled anglers to test and critique our blank models before they ever hit the marketplace. We do everything possible to tweak the designs of our blanks before our customers ever lay their hands on them.
Our Blank Inspection Team Performs Our Famous 9 Step In-House Inspection Process

1. Measure Blank Butt Diameter: We measure each blank model with digital calipers and compare this measurement to our established specification for that blank model. (See photo A)
2. Measure Blank Tip Diameter: We verify the blank’s tip top size to our recorded and published tip top specification. (See photo B)
3. Measure Blank Weight: Each blank model is carefully weighed on a calibrated digital scale and compared to our published specifications.
4. Measure Blank Flex Height: Each and every rod blank has a specified flex height. We carefully place a weight on the tip and measure the amount of deflection compared to our file specification. This procedure tells us that the blanks have been made correctly and that they are consistent from batch to batch. Our blank consistency is legendary in the industry. (See photo C)
5. Inspect For Blank Straightness: Every blank model is visually inspected for blank straightness. Like our blank consistency, our blank straightness is legendary industry wide.
6. Inspection Of Blank Finish: We carefully inspect each blank model for any flaws or defects in the blank painting/coating process.
7. Ferrule Overlap: We have an established ferrule overlap specifcation for every multi-piece rod model. Every model’s ferrule is checked against this established specification. (See photo D)
8. General Ferrule Inspection: Each blank model’s ferrule is inspected to be sure it was cut straight and that no burrs are present that can scratch the rod blank finish in the ferrule area.
9. Flex Testing The Blank: We flex test blanks towards the tip of the blank by bending it 90 degrees. This is a strength test performed by us on all blank models before they go into inventory and before they are shipped. (See photo E)
